The application process is straightforward, and communication with the funding programme is easy. I think it’s great that such a wide range of cultural activities receives funding, from music and performance to art and projects in between.

A strong project speaks clearly to its local community. I’m interested in projects that put new ideas into practice and build new connections between different scenes and people.

Reflecting on my own position as a community organiser, and hearing about and learning from the different applications and projects.

Connect with friends who are keen to organise something, and don’t try to do everything on your own.

Set out your finances clearly and try to include a fee for your own work. Ask someone to read through your application before you submit it.

Take a look at the projects that have received funding so far. If a project is heading in a similar direction, get in touch and ask whether the people behind it would be willing to share their application or what they learned.

Document your project well: for yourselves, to share with others, to support future funding applications, and so people can find you again.
