"The film Untitled takes us on an imaginary, pictorial journey to the Bergisches Land region. Images of the Bergisches Land — or, more precisely, images that immediately bring the Bergisches Land to mind for many people — form the framework for this film. They create a stage, and on this stage, actors take us into their world of images — the images in their minds. They paint the pictures in their minds for us, and they do so using sign language. Their acting is a game with sign language. This game with sign language was developed by deaf people in the USA. The name of this sign language acting is Visual Vernacular. This means ‘visible jargon’. What this refers to is communication on a visible level using sign language from the world of deaf people. In the film Untitled, the actors express themselves in Visual Vernacular. They tell stories in sign language in a free and artistic form. Poetic — colourful and multifaceted — the film plays in the world of fantasy and in the real world." -Kai Fobbe
