Intersections of bicultural glass fragments danced into a polychrome intercultural mosaic
K A L E I D O S K O P visualizes the multicultural sense of identity and associated conflicts in people with a migration biography. The performers are three young amateurs between the ages of 16-23 and three professional dancers. The piece is based on the performers' personal experiences due to their biculturalism and upbringing in Germany. Each performance was followed by a discussion with the audience. The aim of the project is to show that everyone can carry and live several cultures within themselves without losing liberal and democratic traditions and values.
The project was awarded 3rd prize in the Mosaik Youth Prize for “With diversity against racism” by the cities of Munich and Nuremberg. In November 2024, the play “INSIDE KLDSKP” celebrated its premiere, which further reflects the creative process and is made accessible to a wider public.
“The play appeals to society to be more human and aware of each other.”
The dance project draws society's attention to the fact that people with migrant backgrounds are not fragments of society. Young people from multicultural families possess the unique ability to integrate norms and values from different worlds, offering distinct opportunities. Multicultural individuals exemplify tolerance and respect for other cultures. The performance advocates for greater humanity and mutual awareness within society. We define multiculturalism as opportunity of the peaceful coexistence and mutual enrichment of two or more cultures within an individual due to their heritage and upbringing.
