The performance collective hyper_real went on a research trip with children. Between April and June 2025, the team visited the primary school in Hennstedt, the IFZ Schorsch in St. Georg and the Catholic Bonifatius School in Hamburg to learn about and observe romping around from the real experts.
Three weeks of research on social bodies and power relations resulted in a performative installation created together with seven children. In October and November 2025, the production Toben für Erwachsene (Romping for Adults) was performed in Lägerdorf and Hamburg. The piece is a performative audio walk for adults and children. Wearing headphones, participants move through a walk-in romping ruin – an installative stage space between playground and memory.
Who is allowed to be wild, loud, physically present? And what does that reveal about how we live together? How do children with disabilities romp? Toben für Erwachsene shows that physical expression does not have to end with adulthood, but can be a starting point for reflection, encounter and new perspectives. The production brings artistic research, political analysis and experiential movement into a dialogue that goes beyond pedagogical clarity.
